Bureau of Indian Standards Compulsory Registration Scheme BIS CRS
BIS CRS stands for Bureau of Indian Standards Compulsory Registration Scheme. It is a scheme under which manufacturers of currently 81 products categories are required to obtain registration from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) before they can manufacture, sell, distribute, or import those products in the Indian market. The products that come under the BIS CRS are listed in the Compulsory Registration (CR) Orders issued by the MEITY and DPIIT and it is updated from time to time.
The purpose of the BIS CRS is to ensure that the products that are manufactured, sold, distributed, or imported in India meet the prescribed standards of quality and safety. The BIS is a national standards body that is responsible for developing, publishing, and enforcing standards for goods and services in India.
If the manufacturer is granted registration, they will be issued a registration certificate and a unique registration number (R-number). The manufacturer must then mark their products with the R-number.
